Hello my friends!
Welcome to a new month. Let's pause for a moment and just appreciate that we are continuing to move forward, one step at a time.
April was an incredibly challenging time for a lot of people. For me, it was challenging not only mentally, but also physically. With everything going on in the world, I found myself in a space of
literally not being able to engage in the way I would like. As the Derek Chauvin trial concluded, I was grateful that there was accountability for the murder of George Floyd, but I don’t consider this justice.
We are continually reminded that we cannot let up. We have to keep working toward educating people on the continued impact of systemic racism in this country. We need to vow to continue to hold people accountable when Black lives are taken so senselessly. Black Lives Matter.

Let me be vulnerable for a minute: I had grand plans for #AllyshipApril. The full array of what I wanted to accomplish was very much stunted by the paralysis of navigating, teaching, experiencing, and mourning.
Needless to say, stay tuned for #AllyshipAugust. 🤷🏾♀️
Metropolitan Black Bar Association:
37th Anniversary Awards Gala
As many of you know, I was the president of the Metropolitan Black Bar Association (MBBA), and I am the current president of the Friends of MBBA Inc., which is the charitable arm of the MBBA.
Each year, proceeds from the Gala go to support scholarships, pipeline efforts, and community engagement. I would love your support in supporting the gala by purchasing a ticket or sponsoring. You can join us by registering here!
On April 14th, I sat down with Dennis Hopkins, a Patent Litigation Partner at Perkins Coie, for an excellent and enlightening conversation on business development strategies and principles from a practitioner’s point of view. We discussed best practices for developing or refining your business development plan, in addition to topics ranging from developing your
own style, setting business development goals, pivoting in the pandemic, accountability, and establishing business development principles. It was such an insightful conversation! Check out the recording here.
